5K Details

The Heroes 5k recognizes the Whitley County EMTs for 2023. In recognition the team award will be designed and donated by the Whitley County EMTs.

Starting downtown Columbia City at 8:15 AM shortly after the Marathon starts the course follows the Marathon course west till branching off at the Oak Street and head down Old Trail Road. The Course will head out into the country before turning around and joining the Marathon Course to return to town for the final mile finishing alongside the Whitley County Courthouse.

Packet Pick-up Friday (10th) night is located at Running Around Screen Printing (227 West Van Buren Street Columbia City, IN 46725) from 3:00PM to 8:00PM (eastern time) and then race morning (11th) on the Courthouse lawn by the Start/Finish line from 6:30AM to 7:45AM (eastern time)

There is 1 staffed Aid Station (Culligan Water) near the turn around on Old Trail Road.

3-Person Team Competition:
The Heroes 5K will be incorporating a team competition to the race. This will consist of 3 persons, Male or Female or any combination of that will compete for a team trophy. Scoring will be based off of the total time of the 3 persons finishing times added together.

Half Marathon Details

Starting downtown Columbia City at 8:00 AM on East Van Buren Street the course heads west through town before looping through the countryside and then returning back into town finishing alongside the scenic Whitley County Courthouse on |marathondate|.

Packet Pick-up Friday(10th) night is located at Running Around Screen Printing (227 West Van Buren Street Columbia City, IN 46725) from 3:00PM to 8:00PM (eastern time) and then race morning(11th) at the Start/Finish line on the Courthouse lawn from 6:30AM to 7:45AM (eastern time)

There are 7 fully staffed aid stations (Culligan water and Gatorade) along the course at the following mile markers: 2.5, 4 (GU Gels Available), 5, 7.5, 10, 11(GU Gels Available), and 12.5 miles.

Course Closes at 6 hours or 2:00 PM
Special consideration can be made if needed for an extended time allowance.

Repeating the same loop and then finishing alongside the scenic Whitley County Courthouse on |marathondate|.

Boston Qualifier

There are 15 fully staffed aid stations (Culligan water, Gatorade and Gels) along the course at the following mile markers: 2.5, 4, 5, 7.5, 10, 11, 12.5 13.1, 15.5, 17, 18, 21, 23, 24, and 25.5 miles. There will also be Port a johns available around the course at all Aid Stations except 12.5/25.5 miles.

Course Closes at 6 hours or 2:00 PM
Special consideration can be made if needed for an extended time allowance.

Race Day Spectators

Spectators are welcome throughout the course as long as they do not impede any runners or course support persons.

City Ordinance prohibits pets from downtown events. We ask that you respect this ordinance.

The Veterans Marathon is a Boston Qualifier and Sanctioned USATF event all standards and rules that are enforced by these governing bodies will be enforced. For reference to these rules the links below:

Race Day Awards

Awards will be presented at the event tent on the courthouse lawn at their respective times.

Marathon and Half Marathon awards:
Overall Male and Female as well as Overall Masters runners with receive large Indiana shaped limestone awards with a medallion representing that years respective branch.

Top 2 in each age division will receive a limestone award with a medallion representing that years respective branch.

Heroes 5K awards:
Overall and Masters Runners will receive Indiana shaped limestone with the years respective Hero medallion.

Top 2 in each age division will receive a limestone award with a medallion representing that years respective Hero.

Awards can be mailed out for a small shipping fee which can be purchased through our website.
You can pick up the awards in person at Running Around Screen Printing after Monday November 13th if needed.

Race Day Post Race

All post race festivities will take place on the courthouse lawn in and around the event tent.

Hot Soup will be available to all participants free of charge post race as well as other refreshments. Columbia City’s Local Elk Lodge #1417 will be on hand to serve.

Awards will take place shortly after each race in the event tent. Refer to the race day schedule for those times.
